Caribbean Music Awards Celebrates Dancehall Talent
The 2026 Caribbean Music Awards brought together performers and industry figures from different parts of the Caribbean for a celebration of the region’s diverse musical cultures.
This year’s ceremony was particularly significant because it was held in Trinidad and Tobago for the first time, with the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain serving as the venue.
The awards recognised achievements across multiple genres, including dancehall, reggae, soca, bouyon, and other Caribbean musical styles.
Jamaican artistes featured prominently among the dancehall winners. Shenseea won Female Dancehall Artist of the Year, while Valiant received the Male Dancehall Artist of the Year award.
Prince Swanny won Dancehall Album of the Year for Saint, while Ding Dong was named Dancehall Performer of the Year.
The collaboration “Shake It to the Max (FLY) [Remix],” featuring MOLIY, Silent Addy, Skillibeng, and Shenseea, won Dancehall Song of the Year and Dancehall Collaboration of the Year. Masicka also received recognition for Dancehall Video of the Year for “Rich Sex.”
Ayetian’s double victory added to Jamaica’s strong representation in the dancehall categories.
A New Generation of Dancehall Artistes
The recognition comes at a time when dancehall continues to attract new listeners through streaming platforms, social media, and international collaborations.
Emerging artistes have increasingly used digital platforms to introduce their music to audiences outside their home markets, creating opportunities to build international fan bases.
Awards such as the Caribbean Music Awards provide another platform for recognising developing talent and celebrating the artistes helping shape the future of Caribbean music.
For Ayetian, winning Best New Artist and the Dancehall Impact Award provides an opportunity to strengthen his profile and reach listeners who may be discovering his music for the first time.
Maintaining that momentum will depend on continued musical releases, audience engagement, performances, and the ability to connect with listeners through his sound.
The achievement also highlights the importance of recognising emerging artistes alongside established performers whose careers have already influenced the genre.
