Five Robbery Suspects Escape From Limuru Police Station

Five suspects facing robbery with violence allegations have escaped from police custody at Limuru Police Station in Kiambu County following a dramatic late-night incident that left three police officers injured.

The escape occurred at approximately 11pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when officers opened the male cells to transfer 10 detainees into another room.

According to police reports, the suspects attacked the officers as they opened the metal grill door, overpowering them before fleeing from the station.

The officers raised an alarm for assistance, prompting another officer on crime standby duty to respond. However, the responding officer was also reportedly attacked by the fleeing suspects.

Three officers sustained injuries during the confrontation, while five suspects managed to escape. Two others remained in custody.

Five Escapees Identified

Police identified the five escapees as Moses Waswa, Simon Eshiwani, Daniel Ndichu Njoroge, Dedan Kariuki and Edward Muriithi Kariuki.

The suspects had reportedly been arrested on October 14, 2026, before being presented before the Limuru Chief Magistrate’s Court the following day.

They were remanded at the police station as investigators continued examining the allegations against them.

The suspects were expected to take their plea on November 5, 2026, before the escape disrupted the court process.

Police said the five were among seven suspects facing robbery with violence and gang rape allegations, while two others remained in custody. The allegations have not been proven in court.

Police Launch Manhunt for Escapees

Following the incident, security officers launched an operation to trace and rearrest the five suspects.

The operation is being coordinated by the Limuru Sub-County Police Commander and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer.

Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the escape, including how the suspects managed to overpower officers during the transfer exercise.

The three injured officers were reported to have sustained injuries after being attacked during the incident.

Authorities have continued efforts to establish what happened and determine whether there were any security lapses at the police facility.

Limuru Escape Raises Questions About Police Cell Security

The incident has renewed attention on security arrangements at police stations and the management of suspects held in custody.

It also comes barely two weeks after four suspects escaped from Itabua Police Station in Embu County in a separate incident reported in October 2026.

The repeated incidents have raised questions about the security of police holding facilities and the procedures followed when transferring detainees.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to provide further information about the Limuru escape and the efforts to bring the five suspects back into custody.

Meanwhile, the suspects remain accused persons and are entitled to due process as the legal proceedings surrounding their cases continue.
