Wicknell Chivayo’s Ex-Wife and Sister to Jointly Manage His Estate
The family of late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has agreed to have his former wife, Sonja Louise Madzikanda, and biological sister, Esther Chivayo, jointly manage his multimillion-dollar estate.

The agreement, signed in Harare on November 3, 2026, proposes that the two women serve as co-executrices, overseeing the administration of his wealth and business interests.
Their legal representatives subsequently submitted the agreement to the Master of the High Court in Harare for consideration and formal approval. However, the proposed appointment is not yet final, as the necessary legal authorisation is still pending.
Agreement Aims to Protect Chivayo’s Children
The proposed arrangement brings together Madzikanda, who shares two young children with the late businessman, and Esther, his biological sister and next of kin.

According to correspondence submitted by their lawyers, the family reached a consensus following consultations involving interested parties and their legal representatives.
Esther had reportedly been nominated by the family to serve as a co-executrix, while Madzikanda’s inclusion is expected to ensure that the interests of the children are considered during the administration process.
The arrangement is also intended to avoid disagreements over who should oversee the estate and provide a coordinated approach to managing the deceased businessman’s affairs.
What Happens to Wicknell Chivayo’s Wealth?
Chivayo’s estate is believed to include substantial business interests and personal assets. However, its actual value has not been officially established.

The administration process will involve identifying and valuing the assets, examining financial records, establishing outstanding debts and considering legitimate claims against the estate.
The appointed administrators will also be responsible for safeguarding the property and overseeing its eventual distribution to legally entitled beneficiaries.
The two women will only assume these responsibilities formally once the Master of the High Court approves the proposed arrangement and issues the necessary documentation.
Unresolved US$25 Million Property Dispute
The development comes against the background of a long-running matrimonial property dispute between Madzikanda and Chivayo.
Before his death, Madzikanda was involved in a US$25 million property and asset division dispute, equivalent to approximately KSh3.2 billion.

The matter had been awaiting determination by Zimbabwe’s Supreme Court when Chivayo died. Following his death, the proceedings were removed from the court roll pending the appointment of an executor or executrix who could legally represent his estate.
The appointment of the estate’s administrators is therefore important not only for managing his wealth but also for determining how outstanding legal claims involving the businessman will proceed.

Chivayo Died in September Helicopter Crash
Chivayo died on September 30, 2026, alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, in a helicopter crash in Marondera, Zimbabwe.
His death left behind two young children from his previous relationship with Madzikanda, whose financial security and welfare have become important considerations in the proposed estate administration arrangement.
The agreement between Madzikanda and Esther represents a move towards cooperation among family members as they navigate the legal process surrounding the businessman’s wealth.
For now, the next step rests with the Master of the High Court, whose approval will determine whether the two women can officially take charge of administering Chivayo’s estate.
