Majembe Challenges Shakib to a Boxing Match
Kenyan boxer Protifas Odiop, popularly known as Majembe, has challenged Ugandan boxer Shakib Cham Lutaaya to a boxing showdown, setting the stage for a potential East African celebrity sporting rivalry.
Majembe issued the challenge after Shakib defeated Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy during the Vurugu 2.0 celebrity boxing event held in Nairobi in June 2026.

In a video shared on social media, Majembe called on Shakib to face him in the ring, proposing a winner-takes-all contest in which both fighters would put their championship belts on the line.
The challenge has generated interest among fans who followed the earlier Vurugu boxing events and are eager to see how a contest between the two fighters might unfold.
Majembe Offers His Championship Belt
Majembe said he was ready to risk the belt he won during the inaugural Vurugu boxing event if Shakib agreed to the proposed contest.
He challenged Shakib to bring forward the belt he believes he deserved after defeating Arrow Bwoy, suggesting that the two titles could be awarded to the eventual winner.

The Kenyan boxer also questioned Shakib’s reported claims about being the best boxer in the world, arguing that such recognition should be earned through competition inside the ring.
Majembe maintained that a direct contest would allow fans to compare their abilities and determine the winner through an actual fight.
However, the challenge does not by itself confirm that a match has been officially scheduled. Details such as the venue, date, contractual arrangements and fight rules would need to be established by the parties and event organisers.
Shakib’s Victory Over Arrow Bwoy
Shakib’s victory over Arrow Bwoy at Vurugu 2.0 helped fuel Majembe’s challenge.
The Ugandan fighter faced the Kenyan musician at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi on June 20, 2026, in one of the event’s headline bouts.

Shakib was declared the winner after the contest ended in a technical knockout, according to media reports.
The fight attracted considerable attention because of the exchange between the two entertainers in the weeks leading up to the event. Arrow Bwoy had also made remarks involving Shakib’s wife, Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan, prompting Shakib to tell the musician to keep his wife out of their rivalry.
The result gave Shakib further visibility in the celebrity boxing scene and prompted discussions about which Kenyan fighter might take him on next.
Why Majembe Wants to Face Shakib
Majembe’s challenge comes after his emergence as the winner of the first Vurugu boxing event, where he defeated Mbavu Destroyer.
His withdrawal from the second edition had previously attracted attention after disagreements over sponsorship and contractual arrangements prevented him from participating.
Despite missing Vurugu 2.0, Majembe indicated that he remained interested in future contests and was willing to face Shakib.

A fight between the two would bring together the reigning champion from the inaugural event and the Ugandan boxer who defeated Arrow Bwoy in the sequel.
It could also extend the rivalry that has developed around Vurugu, an event that combines entertainment personalities with boxing competition.
Will Shakib Accept Majembe’s Challenge?
The next development depends on whether Shakib accepts the proposal and whether both camps can agree on the terms of a contest.
Majembe has publicly put forward his offer, including the possibility of staking his championship belt. However, an official fight announcement, confirmed date and agreed terms were not established in the reports covering the challenge.

For now, the proposed showdown remains a challenge rather than a confirmed bout.
If the two fighters reach an agreement, the match could become another major talking point in East Africa’s growing celebrity boxing scene.
